Liability Insurance For UAS, UAV, Drone and RPAS Test Sites

The FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 requires the agency to select six UAS test sites to study the safety of UAS and certify commercial UAS, UAV, Drones and RPAS for use in the national airspace.

The competition is fierce because the test sites hold the potential to create thousands of jobs and millions in tax revenue, not counting the profits from commercial applications that will be tested at the sites.

But even if not selected as FAA test sites, many applicants plan to continue to develop their UAS, UAV, Drone and RPAS economies independently.

    Liability for the safety of members of the public while on the test site premises and within the environment controlled by the Test Site Authority. This would also cover sickness or death caused by food or drink purchased and consumed on the premises and while being transported around the Test Site by employees of the Test Site Authority.

    Liability for the safe handling of UAS on the ground, while in the air or under the control of the Test Site Air Traffic control center operated by the Test Site Authority.

    Liability for the operation of aircraft or vehicles owned by the Test Site Authority.

    Liability for the loss of or damage to Payload. Freight or Cargo when being handled by employees of the Test Site Authority.

    Liability for damage caused to a third party UAV, UAS, Drone or RPAS while in the care, custody or control of the Test Site Authority.

    Liability for damage caused during the operation of any ramp or turnaround facilities by employees of the Test Site Authority.
  • Aviation Catering and Franchises
    Liability for the safety of personnel and vehicles while operating in the environment controlled by the Test Site Authority.
  • UAS, UAV, Drone and RPAS Maintenance and Specific Construction Work
    Liability for the safety of personnel employed or contracted to perform maintenance or construction work within the environment controlled by the Test Site Authority.
  • Airshow Liability
    Liabilities arising from an airshow taking place at the Test Site.
  • UAS, UAV, Drone and RPAS Test Site Security
    Liability for the security of the Test Site environs and screening of visitors and cargo. With terrorism a major world wide problem, this aspect is increasingly important.
